You Were Not Born Shy, It's A Choice.

Wendu's Bite-Sized Insights (Monday's)

Happy Monday, friend!

Whew. We've made it to February—a leap year! In the spirit of leaping, let's tackle today's topic: shyness.

Contrary to popular belief, you weren't born shy. None of us were. Hear me out.

From birth, we're innocent, fearless, and unapologetically curious blank slates—ready to create the masterpiece of our lives (fulfill our destiny).

Think about it: babies boldly cry out for their needs. Children fearlessly explore anything in sight and freely express their opinions.

So, what happens to that boldness? Why does it morph into shyness?

It's simple—fear.

As we grow, the world sketches on our blank slate—telling us how to think, act, and feel. And honey, they cannot draw well.

This pressure lets in fear and suppresses our natural curiosity and boldness, making us conform to "fit in"—which leads to shyness.

You see? Shyness is a learned behavior, a habit. It's a desperate survival choice in a world where being yourself is unacceptable.

But great news: you hold the eraser.

You can choose which sketches stay in your masterpiece (identity) and erase the ugly ones.

How To Unlearn It

If you believe you're shy, remember that it's just an adaptation born from fear, but it’s not part of the identity blueprint God designed for you.

When you feel shy, ask yourself:

  • "What's triggering this feeling right now?"

  • "How can I erase this false perception?"

Try these strategies, too:

  1. Daily Anti-Shyness Challenges: initiate convos, share bold opinions, try new (but safe) activities, etc.

  2. Reflect on Your True Identity: Remember, God made you in His Image. He's far greater than timidity, meaning shyness has no place in your identity or daily functioning.

Inspiration Station

"You're not locked into anyone's script but God's. He's the author of your story, and He gave you the master blueprint to your identity. You have the power to erase what He did not include in the design of your identity."

— Chinwendu Opara

Today, I encourage you to stop fitting in. Stand out like the unique and beautiful masterpiece you are.
